Dementia Action Week 2026

Dementia Action Week 2026 takes place across the UK from May 18^th – 24^th.

Harpenden Town Council is committed to supporting people in the local community living with dementia. By partnering with The Salvation Army and The Harpenden Trust, we are actively supporting Dementia Action Week through a range of dementia-friendly social activities across Harpenden.

In addition, we are providing helpful resources, including advice, key contact numbers, and guidance on how we can all work together to support some of the most vulnerable members of our community. 

Monday 18th May: Dementia Action Week starts with a tea dance at the Memory Lane Café. Anyone who is living with dementia and their carer or loved one is welcome to come along and enjoy music, dancing and a delicious afternoon tea. The event takes place from 2pm until 3.30pm at The Salvation Army on Leyton Green.

Tuesday 19th May: The Harpenden Intergenerational Singing Group is taking place at The Salvation Army in Leyton Green from 12.45-1.30pm. Singing can be a powerful tool for coping with dementia by calming anxiety, encouraging movement, offering an outlet for expression and promoting connection.

Thursday 21st May: People from the community living with dementia and their family or carers are invited to join a dementia-friendly walk around Harpenden Common and Ponds. This will be a gentle, social walk to encourage movement, orientation, social contact and sensory stimulation. The route will be a flat, mostly grassed or gravel loop around the ponds and is around 0.5km in length (and should take around one hour). Meet at the Harpenden Common Baa Lambs Car Park (opposite the Silver Cup pub) at 10.30am.
