community payback scheme
Harpenden Town Council has been working with the Probationary Service’s Community Payback over the past twelve months; this scheme offers an opportunity for supervised offenders to help the community while learning new skills.
Work carried out has included painting railings and digging shrub beds in Lydekker Park, painting railings in Westfield play area, digging the Rose Garden shrub beds, painting the teen shelter and railings in Rothamsted Park and strimming work at Southdown Ponds.
The scheme has benefitted our community immensely, contributing approximately 600 hours work within our green spaces, with a saving of c£5,700 for the Town.

Discovering Harpenden
The parks and green spaces of Harpenden are not only diverse in the amenities they offer to visitors, but also hugely important to local wildlife and biodiversity. Wander to Batford Springs Local Nature Reserve, for example, to enjoy a rare chalk lined stream, reed fen, wet woodland, meadows, hedgerows and the River Lea.
