Banking hub update

Following our announcement in September that Harpenden has been allocated a Banking Hub, Harpenden Town Council is working with Cash Access UK, the organisation responsible for delivering banking hubs, to ensure the successful delivery of this vital community asset.

As the local lead in delivering this facility, our priority is to ensure that the Banking Hub will be centrally located, accessible and open to individual and business customers as quickly as possible.

The target is for the permanent Banking Hub to be open within the next 12 months and whilst we aren’t in direct control of this, we will be doing what we can to make it happen in that timeframe. Establishing a permanent Banking Hub will require various confidential discussions with prospective landlords and other relevant partners and we will not be in a position to share certain information, including information regarding potential locations of the Banking Hub until appropriate agreements are in place.

Whilst the work on finding a location for a permanent banking hub has begun, we are also in parallel finalising details of an interim Banking Hub which will see vital banking services available to local people and businesses ahead of a permanent Banking Hub opening.

The allocation of a Banking Hub in Harpenden follows close to three years’ work by the Town Council to secure accessible banking services to Harpenden and surrounding areas. A provision of face-to-face full banking services is critical to our High Street and thriving Town and we are delighted that our public engagement and lobbying campaign will lead to successful implementation of this.
