Batford Festival this July will celebrate the importance of local community

Batford Festival this July will celebrate the importance of local community. Local charities, community groups, schools and entertainers will join together to create an exciting FREE line up on Sunday 5th July. The event will take place in Porters Hill Park. The location was chosen, not only because it is a beautiful park offering playground facilities and wide-open spaces, but because it allows local people to enjoy a community celebration right on their doorstep

Mayor's Civic Service launches 'Building a Better Future for our Young People' Theme and Announces Nominated Charities Youth Talk and Herts Young Homeless

The Civic Service is an annual service of thanksgiving which celebrates the new Mayor taking office and introduces their Mayoral theme for the year. This year, Cllr Wenn has chosen a theme of ‘Building a Better Future for our Young People’, a cause close to her heart, and this is reflected in her choice of nominated charities: Youth Talk and Herts Young Homeless.

Reintroduction of Water Voles at Batford Springs

Exciting conservation project in Harpenden! Harpenden Town Council has released 200 water voles in the Upper River Lea, a project which has taken rigorous planning over the last three years and reintroduces this important species to Batford Springs Local Nature Reserve after 40 years.

New Town Mayor and Deputy Mayor Elected at Annual Council Meeting

The Town Council held its Annual Town Meeting and Annual Council on Monday 11 May.  This Meeting marks the start of a new Municipal Year for the Council and welcomes a new Mayor and Deputy Mayor into office.

New Installation on the Concourse

A large flower-bed planter with seating will be installed on the Concourse, near the Library, this week as part of our work on enhancing and maintaining the features of the Town Centre. Floral displays and green open spaces play a vital role in ensuring Harpenden is a welcoming and vibrant place for residents and visitors to enjoy, and the new installation will enable sustainable planting with an additional benefit of attractive outdoor seating.

Town Council partners with The Harpenden Collective to launch Harpenden Business Mentoring Programme

Harpenden Town Council together with The Harpenden Collective, officially launched their Business Mentoring Programme at the Harpenden Business Forum last week. The Programme aims to connect mentors and mentees and forms part of the Town Council’s objective to support local independent businesses and economic prosperity in the town.

Town Council works with University of Hertfordshire to encourage young people’s creativity

Harpenden Town Council has launched a film competition, aimed at under 25 year olds in the town, to encourage and develop creative talent. Working with Howard Berry, Principal Lecturer and Head of Post - Production for Film and Television at the University of Hertfordshire, and Pippa Cawdron from Hertfordshire Film Office, young people in the town are asked to produce a short film titled “What’s important to me?”.

Harpenden Town Centre Research
