mayor of harpenden re-opens rothamsted Park tennis courts

Tennis enthusiasts of all abilities enjoyed a morning of free tennis at Rothamsted Park at the end of July. The event, hosted by Harpenden Town Council, was organised to celebrate the relaunch of the Rothamsted Park tennis courts. The relaunch follows investment by Harpenden Town Council, as well as the government and LTA Tennis Foundation through the LTA delivered Park Project.

The upgrades, which are a significant boost to popular existing tennis facilities that were acquired by the Town Council, include the installation of new nets, the surface being professionally jet washed and moss treatment conducted, overgrown hedging and scrub from the rear of the courts cleared, and grass areas cut so that tennis balls can be easily retrieved.

The most significant change is the installation of an automated gate system which enables the courts to be booked and accessed easily by members of the public at their own leisure. All courts are available to book via the LTA website. An upgrade to the floodlighting system is also planned for later this year.

As well as weekly free Park Tennis sessions, with equipment provided, the refurbished courts will host Local Tennis Leagues, giving people the opportunity to get involved in friendly and social local competitions.
