removal of fencing in rothamsted

6th March 2023

We are pleased to confirm that the temporary fencing surrounding one of Rothamsted Park’s football pitches will be removed this week.

Following Harpenden Town Council’s acquisition of Rothamsted Park and building work undertaken by St Albans and District Council, this area of land was not formally handed over to Harpenden Town Council due to concerns regarding its poor condition. A series of actions were agreed with former owners, St Albans and District Council, to improve the surface and ensure the area meets the high aesthetic and safety standards that the Town Council and Park users expect. Remedial work including removing turf and rubble, re-levelling and reseeding has been completed and there will be further work this Spring to continue to improve the ground.

In addition, the Town Council is working towards securing funding which will support our delivery of further improvements to the surface of the pitch. We look forward to issuing updates on this in the near future.

Rothamsted Park is an important recreational green space and much-loved by residents and visitors. The Town Council views this work, and reopening of the area as a playable football pitch from September 2024, as a priority. We encourage Rothamsted Park users to continue to visit our website and follow us on social media for further updates.
