Mayor Chooses her nominated charities
Cllr Beth Fisher, Town Mayor of Harpenden for 2025/26, has chosen her two nominated charities for her Mayoral year: The Hertfordshire Domestic Abuse Helpline (HDAH) and The King’s Pantry Foodbank, which reflect her theme of ‘Helping People Through Tough Times’.
Each year the Mayor announces two charities to support and holds a number of events to raise funds and, equally importantly, to help raise the charities’ profile in the community.
The King’s Pantry Foodbank is based at the Salvation Army Hall in Leyton Green and is a lifeline for people in the Harpenden area who may be struggling to feed their families.
Volunteers organise parcels of food and household products to give to people referred to the Foodbank through local agencies. They rely on donations of a range of items by the community and other charities and groups from tinned vegetables, to pasta, rice, noodles and jam.
The HDAH is a free, confidential and anonymous support and signposting service for anyone affected by domestic abuse living in Hertfordshire and surrounding counties. Domestic abuse exists in many forms, not only physical, and can include emotional, psychological and financial abuse, coercive control, digital abuse or stalking. The Helpline provides a safe space for people to discuss their situation.
The Mayor’s first fundraising event will be in September, and will see the return of the ever-popular Annual Charity Quiz at Park Hall.
Keep an eye out on our online calendar for details and how to book tickets – they sell out fast!
