It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Past Town Mayor and former Town Councillor, Rosemary Farmer earlier this month.

Rosemary was elected to Harpenden Town Council in 2007, and served as Town Mayor three times.  In 2015 she was made an Honorary Townsman, she also held the title of Honorary Alderman through her service as a St Albans District Councillor (also holding the office of Mayor of St Albans). Rosemary stood down from serving as a Town Councillor in 2023.

A dedicated and hardworking Councillor, in addition to serving as Mayor, she undertook a variety of roles including Chairman of the Planning and Corporate Policy & Finance Committees. She personally advocated for the Royal Anglian Regiment to be granted the Freedom of Harpenden and was delighted when they held a Freedom Parade March through the Town in 2016.

A longstanding resident of the Town, having moved to Harpenden in 1999, she was an active and enthusiastic participant in many of the Town’s civic and cultural events and voluntary organisations, including being a member of the town twinning ‘Friends of Alzey’ Committee and a regular attendee of the Town’s varied choral and musical concerts.

Rosemary was a much-valued and highly regarded member of the Harpenden community, and will be greatly missed.
