banking hub moves to permanent location on the high street
Harpenden’s Banking Hub, which opened as an interim Hub at Harpenden Town Hall in December 2024, has opened its doors to customers in its new permanent central location: 35 High Street, Harpenden, AL5 2RU. Its permanent move to the High Street ensures accessible banking services for customers of high street banks in the town.
Cash Access UK which runs the Banking Hub has received over 12500 customer visits, since its opening in December 2024, highlighting the importance of a permanent banking facility in Harpenden. The new High Street premises will continue to provide professional, face to face counter services for customers of the major high street banks.
Cllr Kirsti Wenn, Mayor of Harpenden said “The Town Council, together with Cash Access UK, are thrilled that banking services in Harpenden is now permanently available in a central location, providing a vital service to the people and businesses in our Town. We were able to offer space at the Town Hall as an interim solution until permanent premises were found, and the positive feedback on the service has been great to hear. It is so important that all residents and local businesses are able to visit a bank without having to travel to other towns.”
The Town Council led the campaign to establish a Banking Hub for close to three years, following the closure of Harpenden’s Banks. Its work included public engagement conducted in 2023 which highlighted that the lack of banks in the town has significantly impacted local people and businesses. HTC’s commitment to delivering a Banking Hub led to its offering space at the Town Hall.
Residents, business, voluntary and community organisations are urged to use the Banking Hub in the same way as their own bank. Cash withdrawals, opening an account, paying in cheques, financial advice and all other services are available Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm.
Cash Access UK is organising an official opening of the Banking Hub on Friday 26th June.
